have adjusted their dispute satisfactorily.

I find, however, from Confidential 273 of 1899, which I am returning herewith, that on the 24th July Mr. Campbell of the H.K. Butchery applied on behalf of the Yan Yee Co. of She Yu Ching for permission to erect a wharf from the beach at Sha U Cheung.

Now the question is who are the Yan Yee Co.? Are they Mr. Pun Shek-man and his friends or are they some rival claimants? It is very necessary, before coming to any determination upon this question, that the Government should be informed who the members of the Yan Yee Co. are, and also whether any of such members have been mixed up in any of the disputes which are referred to in this C.S.O. or in Confidential C.S.O. 232 of 1899 (attached).

I would suggest that Mr. Dyer Ball be asked to clear up the points by making enquiries.

E.H.Pollock,
Acting Attorney General,
21-8-99.

Assistant Registrar General,
Please report.

J.H.Stewart Lockhart,
Colonial Secretary,
